ADDITIONAL INFO:

This Messerschmitt ME 109 C4K is a licence built Hispano Aviacion HA-1112-M1L “Buchon».

As early as 1943 Spain received licence-authority for the Bf 109G-2 and this was put into production as the HA-1109-J1L using the Hispano-Suiza 12Z-89 engine, the first Spanish-buit aircraft flying in March 1945. A later variant used the 12Z-17 engine and appeared as the HA-1109-K1L. However, the major improvement came in 1953 with the adoption of the Merlin 500/45 and the creation of the HA-1112-M1L Buchon. This entered service in 1953 with 71 and 72 Escadrones and served through to the late 1960s - fortunately for the makers of the film Battle of Britain, as it was these aircraft that formed the backbone of the German fighter force in that production.

Aircraft documents from service with Spanish Air Force available (copies certified by the Spanish Air Force Historical Archive – Ministry of Defence).

One of the Battle of Britain film’s airworthy Messerschmitts used by the Spitfire Productions during 1968, this Buchon was shipped, post-filming, along with several other aircraft to Texas. After the film Battle of Britain was completed in 1969, Connie Edwards received the aircraft as payment for flying in the film. The unique fighter planes weren’t touched for over 45 years.
